Mantra of the Month – October
When I was 16, I went to Brazil by myself for 6 weeks on a cultural exchange program. Many people thought my mom was crazy for letting me go, but it was one of the most enriching experiences of my life. At the end of my trip a good friend named Berto gave me a card just before the bus took me to the airport. He ran on and ran off again, not knowing that the contents of the card would stick with me for the rest of my life. The card was very nice; he wished me well in life and hoped I would come back again. At the end of the card he wrote:
“Life’s a trip, the places you travel
are really through the hearts of the friends you have made.”
This quote from Berto solidified to me, in my 16 year old brain, the importance of relationships, friendship, and community. Life is meant to be a journey. You can have financial success, status, and professional recognition, but none of it matters without friends and family to share it with. This little saying has helped dictate the direction of my life and the important focus I place on relationships and people.
No matter where life takes you make sure you remain open to developing personal connections with others and indulging in silly moments with friends. A party, vacation, or simple coffee date becomes meaningful when hearts are involved.

Such a great mantra! Life and it’s experiences are empty if we have noone to share them with.
Thanks Chris! My sentiments exactly.
I agree totally. On your death bed you won’t think about what you owned or how many hours you spent at work, you will think about the friends you made and the experiences you enjoyed with them.
